La demolizione dell'Ala Est della Casa Bianca

È un luogo di residenza. Istintivamente ti rendi conto che la Casa Bianca è prima di tutto un luogo di residenza. Distruggendo un luogo di residenza (un luogo di residenza temporaneo dove le persone, a cui è stato concesso il permesso di vivere mentre servono il popolo), viene inviato un messaggio viscerale a tutti: non siete al sicuro.

È un luogo di residenza. È la casa di qualcuno. Vedere un luogo di residenza distrutto con disprezzo e senso di impunità è agghiacciante, e riecheggia la mostruosa sete di violenza a cui abbiamo assistito il 6 gennaio 2021. Ma il fatto che questa volta sia un luogo di residenza ad essere deturpato e demolito è ciò che colpisce le persone nel profondo. Queste immagini dell’Ala Est, demolita senza il nostro consenso, ci colpiscono nei genitali. Questo atto egoistico e le immagini che circolano hanno lo scopo di colpirci nelle nostre parti intime. Quando qualcuno entra in casa tua, sei una preda: provi un senso di impotenza, di vergogna, di terrore che è quasi animalesco. Ti senti violentato. Perché la tua casa è un’estensione del tuo corpo: è uno strato di te stesso che ha lo scopo di proteggere il nucleo vulnerabile che si trova al suo interno. Come il tuo corpo, la tua casa è pensata per essere un luogo sicuro per il tuo essere interiore. Quando la stessa persona che ha ordinato la demolizione dell’Ala Est della Casa Bianca ha strappato le tende di un camerino in un negozio di abbigliamento di lusso e ha aggredito sessualmente una donna, immagino che lei si sia bloccata, come facciamo tutti noi ora mentre assistiamo alle violazioni e alle intrusioni quotidiane contro i nostri diritti e contro noi stessi che quest’uomo sta compiendo.

Questo atto di violenza sull’Ala Est della Casa Bianca è stato compiuto per intimidire e provocare nausea. Proprio come un genitore sadico o un partner folle, un signore squilibrato o una famiglia mafiosa potrebbero uccidere prima l’animale domestico, lo scopo è quello di suscitare orrore e disgusto, ma anche di essere un segno di ciò che deve ancora venire. Questo atto di demolizione è stato compiuto per far sentire le persone insicure nelle loro case, nei loro corpi. Sono certo che non sia solo una coincidenza che storicamente l’Ala Est sia stata associata alle mogli dei presidenti degli Stati Uniti. Guardando le foto delle macerie e dei cavi penzolanti che ora rimangono, è difficile non pensare alle vite distrutte che questo servitore del popolo si è lasciato alle spalle.

Questo cosiddetto presidente compensa le sue limitate capacità intellettuali con un talento geniale nel trasmettere segnali alla parte più primitiva del cervello delle persone. Non usa le parole per comunicare, ma comunica con editti, azioni e performance simbolicamente sadiche. Comunica attraverso post maniacali, utilizzando immagini tratte dai fumetti, meme e tweet che agiscono sull’inconscio come la pornografia. Comunica attraverso atti teatrali di violenza realizzati per gli schermi televisivi e i cellulari che inviano segnali a tutti noi: non siamo al sicuro, né nelle nostre case, né nei nostri corpi, né nelle nostre menti, che ora sono costantemente invase da immagini di barbarie e crudeltà nelle strade delle città e nelle case delle persone ogni giorno. Bachelard ha scritto una frase famosa: “La casa protegge i sogni ad occhi aperti, la casa protegge il sognatore, la casa permette di sognare in pace”. Posso solo immaginare che questo stato di pace sia sconosciuto al predatore, ma sono certa che sia responsabilità dei sognatori denunciare ciò che viene profanato e trovare un modo per fermarlo.

Why the demolishment of the East Wing of the White House?

It’s a place of residence. Viscerally, first and foremost, the White House is a place of residence.

In destroying a place of residence—a temporary place of residence where people, who are granted permission, live while serving their terms as a servant of the people—a visceral message is being sent to everyone: You are not safe.

It’s a place of residence. It’s somebody’s home. To see a place of residence destroyed with a disregard and sense of impunity is spine-chilling, with echoes of the monstrous lust for violence we witnessed on January 6, 2021. But the fact that this time it is a place of residence being defaced and demolished is what grips people in their innards. These images of the East Wing, demolished without our consent, grab us by our genitals. This selfish act and the images of it that are circulating are meant to strike us in our private places. When your home is broken into, you are prey: There is a helplessness, a sense of shame, a sense of terror that is animal-like. You feel raped. Because your home is an extension of your body: It’s a layer of yourself that is meant to protect the vulnerable core inside. Like your body, your house is meant to be a safe place for your inner being. When the same person who ordered the demolishment of the East Wing of the White House tore open the curtains of a dressing room in a high-end clothing store and sexually assaulted a woman, I imagine she froze as we all do now as we watch the daily violations and trespasses against our rights and ourselves that this man is conducting.

This act of violence on the East Wing of the White House was done to intimidate and nauseate. In the same way that a sadistic parent or insane partner, unhinged overlord, or syndicate family might kill the family pet first, it’s meant to arouse horror and disgust, and also be a sign of what is yet to come. This act of demolition was done to make people feel unsafe in their own homes, in their own bodies. I’m sure it isn’t just a coincidence that historically the East Wing has been associated with the female spouses of the U.S. presidents. When looking at the photos of the rubble and dangling wires that now remain, it is hard not to think of the mangled lives this servant of the people has left in his wake.

This so-called president makes up for his limited intellectual abilities with a genius for sending signals to the most primitive part of people’s brains. He doesn’t use words to communicate, he communicates with symbolic sadistic edicts, actions, and performances. He communicates through maniacal posts, using comic book imagery, memes, and tweets that work on the insides like pornography. He communicates through theatrical acts of violence made for TV screens and cellphones that send signals to all of us: We are not safe, not in our own homes, not in our own bodies, not in our own minds, which are now constantly invaded by images of savagery and cruelty on city streets and people’s homes on a daily basis. Bachelard famously wrote, “the house shelters day-dreaming, the house protects the dreamer, the house allows one to dream in peace.” I can only imagine this state of peace is unknown to the predator, but I am certain it is the responsibility of the dreamers to call out what is being desecrated and find a way to stop it.
